Make It Right: Lower 9th Ward New Orleans

Make It Right is an organization founded by the action of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in collaboration with Global Green. The stated aim of the organization is to "be a catalyst for redevelopment of the Lower 9th Ward by building a neighborhood comprised of safe and healthy homes..." The entire project is thought of as Cradle to Cradle, meaning that decisions are based on both immediate and long term benefits and implications. The strong consideration of Cradle to Cradle design is no doubt a result of William McDonough + Partners (he coined the term and was the author of the now praised book on sustainability) being part of the Make It Right Core Team which was personally assembled by Brad.

The Make It Right campaign goals are especially noteworthy and include:

• building 150 houses in the Lower 9th
• ensuring a green, affordable, sustainable, and replicable community to serve as a model for future rebuilding
• include Lower 9th Ward community in all planning
• use sustainable construction practices
• develop finance plan that allows residents to return without undue hardship

On a personal note, I feel that New Orleans has lost the attention of our lawmakers, media, and general public... Do what you can to help... Pressure your legislators. Take a look at the following photos if you don't think the disaster is real-- it still looks like this in most of the low areas near and in New Orleans today.
