Remember the stone house in Druid Hill Park? On November 4, the fully restored landmark was dedicated to the community. For many living in the Greater Mondawmin neighborhood, this is a welcome change to their daily commutes and backyards, and just one of many to follow. Left to deteriorate for over 20 years, the former Park Superintendent?s house will soon be a city resource, offering educational seminars, job training, and space for community events.
The restoration of the historic house is part of an ongoing project to revive the nine-acres of Druid Hill Park known as Auchentoroly Terrace. The Parks & People Foundation is working towards a complete transformation of the neglected land into a new community hub. Plans include stabilization of the original carriage house, a new Center for Parks & People, and landscaped park grounds. Parks & People are dedicated to minimizing their environmental impact by using innovative sustainable methods. Goats were used to clear overgrown vegetation, so really what could be better?
The dedication was followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Center. Supporters, community members, and public officials gathered for the event. Remarks were given by Governor Martin O?Malley, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Senator Ben Cardin, and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

What a beautiful job your organization has done! I am actually a distant relative of the original owner of Druid Hill Park, Dr. George Buchanan, Auchentorlie it was called. I have been working on the genealogy of my family and came across your site. It is heartwarming to know that what was once beautiful is once again beautiful.
